EOTC - Recount

 EOTC - Recount

Adrenaline Forest
My favourite part of Adrenaline Forest / Spencer Park was going on level 4 with Tahnesha.  It was very scary on the second part of level 4 because I couldn't do it by myself.  Tahnesha did level 4 with me because I was scared,  she helped me get past the second part of level 4.  My least favourite part was the start.  The reason why it was my least favourite is because I didn't really know how to do it.

Christchurch City Centre

My favourite part of Christchurch City Centre was the museum.  The museum was my favourite part because I liked going to look at the olden day stuff.  My least favourite part of the trip was the Library.  That was my least favourite because we didn't get much time and it was only a tour of the Library.

Jellie Park

My favourite part about Jellie Park was the hydro slides.  These were my favourite cause I went down alot and I also went with my friends!  I think having to leave was my least favourite part because it was so much fun.  This trip was my favourite because I got to hang out with my friends without any arguing.

Horror Story

 Horror Story

For the last week we had to be writing a horror story.  I have only just got chapter 1 because me and Shelby got very confused but we are still going to finish it by this week.  Here is our horror story.

Chapter 1: The Beginning

A bell chimed behind me, I slowly turned around and locked eye contact with an old man, he stared at me with his cold green eyes. I felt whispers rush around my body, and then time froze. All I could do was stand and wait. Literally I couldn’t move, but he could. He moved so slowly he looked like he was in pain, he spoke but they were only whispers that had been messed with by the wind. I started floating upwards. I looked up to see what was in my path and there was a body hanging from a rope.  I started to shake,   I didn’t know what to do so I just watched in shock. The rope started to fray.  The dead body fell into a deep well, it dragged me down with it. SPLASH. We landed in a puddle.  I was so disgusted about being with a dead body I moved away from the dead body.  Then you wouldn’t believe what I saw next……

Well I hope you liked my blog post.

Do you like horror storeys ?

What was the most intense part of this story ?

Book Review

 Book Review

My book was Boy by Roald Dahl.  I chose this book because I think Roald Dahls books are really funny and since it's a true story I thought it might be interesting.  Overall I really like this book because it was a true story from back in 1900s and I also think they could have made the chapters like relate to each other.

My favourite part of this book was where he talks about being a fag at Repton.  I liked this part because it seems very annoying to be a fag and I wanted to know what it's like being a fag.  There were many characters in the book but the main one who stood out was obviously Roald Dahl and his mum.

I would recommend this book to some people.  Not all people are going to like this book because it's based on a true story and some people might like made up stories.  I think people aged between 12- 14 would like this book.

I would rate this book a 3.5 / 5 because I don't like how the chapters don't make sense together but some of them do.
Here is a photo of Roald Dahl when he was alive:

EOTC - Extra for Experts

EOTC - Extra for Experts

Next week we are going on trips out to Town, Adrenaline Forest & Jellie Park.  We are going as Kahui and we call it EOTC.  EOTC means Education out the classroom.  We have this slide and it tells us what tasks to do.  There is 4 activities for each place we are going.  There is also 3 activities for year 9s that is called extra for experts but I'm doing that one because they looked funner.  My challenge was this:

Pretend you are a tourist coming to visit Christchurch for the first time.

Plan a day trip for a family of four around the city.

You might choose to visit some of the places we are going for EOTC, you might have some other favourite locations.

Include the costs/budget up to $200 for the day including lunch, snacks and any entrance costs for the attractions and transportation.

Here is what I did for this:

Have you ever been to any of these places ?

What place is your favourite out of the three ?

Speech Term 4

Why we should be allowed coloured hair and painted nails at school.

This term we have been looking at speeches.  We have been doing them for about 3 weeks now.  My speech is about why we should be allowed hair colour and painted nails, hence the title. Here is my speech,  at the top is the time and title.

I really enjoyed my speech because I like some of the words I used.
I was a little bit challenged trying to make it to two minutes long.  I over came this by just working and changing some words and trying to stretch it out as long as I could.
I learnt that I really don't like talking to my computer to record.

The purpose of persuasive writing is to persuade someone with whatever you have written.  Say your speech is why we should be allowed phones at school.  Well you would have to come up with many reasons that you think your option is the best option.

Design a New Uniform

 Design a New Uniform

This week in reading when we finished all our work, we had to do fast finish tasks.  I only started them today because I was busy reading.  I created a unifrom I think would be good.  I didn't add shoes because I think any sneakers would be fine. Here is my google drawing on the "new uniform"

100 Word Challenge - Week 6

 100 Word Challenge

There are these magic bubbles,  they can take you anywhere.  I am at school right now and I really want to go home.  I am going to use these magic bubbles to go home because I would rather be at home.  I am now at home and I thought using those bubbles were fun.  Later that day when school finished when I was at home,  I wanted to go hangout with my friends.  I used the magic bubble to get there.  None of my friends were there.  So I used the magic bubble and went back home to my sister.

Novel Study

 Boy - Roald Dahl

This week for our novel study we had to read pages 108 - 126.  That was two chapters,  Captain Hardcastle &  Little Ellis and the Boil.  Our activity we had to do was writing a blog post about what I think the 1920s - 1930s were like.

What have you learned so far about life in the 1920s-1930s from reading this book? Give examples specifically about how things were different or similar.

I have learnt that I would not like to live in the 1900s because I would hate to get the cane. It's very different from 2020 because now if we get the cane it's child abuse.

If you were going to write an autobiography about your life, what would be some main events that you would include? What has made a big impact on your life?

I would add when my brothers were born, 22/7/17 & 31/10/20. A big impact on my life is when they were born because they are so adorable if there aren't crying.

Have you read any other Roald Dahl books? Which ones? Compare the stories; which one have you liked better and why? If not, have you read David Walliams? Do you notice anything similar between the two author’s writing styles?

Yes I have. I have read BFG, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits and a whole bunch more. I have also read David Walliams books and his a very simler. They are really cool and I like them alot.

Roald Dahl - Boy Tales of Childhood

Novel Study Week 4

This week for our novel study we had to read page 85 - 107.  I read all of them in one day,  I didn't get to posting this blog post on that day.  For that weeks activity, we had to get 10 words out of the chapters we read.  Then we had to search the meaning of them.  Here is my ten words.

Dormitories (85) - A large room for a number of people in a school, collage, etc.

Immense (86) - Extra large or great.

Prowl (87) - Usually an animal is searching for a prey.

Ranged (89) - It's something spaced in a pacific order.

Ancient (93) - Something that is old or not existent anymore.

Devastatingly (93) - Something that could make you sad.  A emotion.

Anaesthetist (94) - It's where you forget everything you ever had.  You can get your memory back.

100 Word Challenge - week 4

 100 Word Challenge

It was cold, dark and misty. I heard a car door slam and started to tiptoe to the door. I undid the locks and walked out to the car. I turned the flash on, on my phone and saw footprints on the front of my car. I was shocked where they were from and how the heck did they get there ? I heard a bang and whipped my head around there was nothing but darkness. I aimed the flash in that direction and saw a cat phew. I wiped the sweat off my home and walked back into the house.

200 Word Challenge

 200 Word Challenge

Swimming in the deep blue sea is scary,  but is being eaten by a whale scarier?  Well I so think so,  I was just swimming and out of no where... I saw a man scuba diver just swimming like nothing was behind him.  But little did he know that there was a massive whale behind he wanting to eat him alive.  He never turned back around so he couldn't even hear the whale.  The whale just wanted to eat him but I swam as fast as I could,  I went to the diver and said look out.  We went up for air for about 30 seconds then to find the whale was gone.  We didn't know where the whale was so we were freaking out,  but at the same time we weren't to scared because it's so massive that we can see it from ages away.  I was pretty scared because we were about 30 minutes in a boat away from any land and 2 hours swim from any land.  We started swimmer south until we found a boat.  It was out of gas but had some pedals to we got to our houses before anything could happen or dark.

Character Descriptions

Character Descriptions

For this past week in reading ( HUR2 )  We have been looking at 3 stories each.  I chose Boy,  I have done this character description of Roald Dahl ( the person who wrote the book ) and me.  I had to write at least 5 facts about each person.  I did more on Roald Dahl because I love his books and so I know a lot about him.  Here is my slide.

100 Word Challenge - Week 2

100 Word Challenge - Week 2

This is a cute pug.  He is stuck in the woods and can't find a way out.  His name is Dan,  he's 17 in pug years, 1 and a half in human years.  He is a light and medium brown kind of color.  His owners abandoned him because they don’t like him anymore and no one would take him.  Dan is nice and warm because he's in a really thick blanket.  He misses his owners but they are coming back for him in 2 hours so it’s fine.  He’s fine because he’s been there for 20 minutes, he is safe.

The Tea On Pink Shirt Day

The Tea On Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day is coming up and we have been looking at it this week! Pink Shirt Day is on the 16th of October.  I have done a google doc with 5 facts about Pink Shirt Day,  I even added some colour.  Here is my google doc.

The tea of pink shirt day

  •  Pink shirt day was created to stand up for those who get bullied, gay shamed, etc.

  • It was created by David Shepherd and Travis Price in Canada, 2007.

  • The people who created it were in year 13 or grade 12 in Canada.

  • The person who got called rude names, were bullied, etc, was a year 10 student named Chuck Mcneill.

  • When you participate in pink shirt day, you don’t bully people or be rude because otherwise don’t participate.

I am excited to see who is participating in this years Pink Shirt Day!

Do you participate in Pink Shirt Day ?
Do you think it's a good cause ?

Theme

 Moral of the story

For the past 2 weeks we have been doing drama and reading mixed.  We are doing drama with Miss Clark and reading with Miss Birch.  In reading,  we have been looking at what the moral of the story is,  the theme.  Shelby and I have been doing the theme of Tangled.  Our DLO is a google slide.  Here is our slide.

I think next time I want to do a Roald Dahl book or David Walliams book because I like their books.  I think they should do a book together.

Do you like reading ?

What type of books do you like reading ?

Roald Dahl

 BOY Tales Of Childhood

Today we picked a book to read in term 4 out of 3 choices.  The choices were,  Roald Dahl Boy Tales of Childhood,  Fleur Beale Playing To Win & Rodman Philbrick Freak The Mighty.  I picked Roald Dahls book because I find then interesting and not to easy.  We have to do 2 or 3 questions off this chart.

The 3 that I chose are....

Q: Read the blurb on the back.  Does this interest you?  Why/Why not?

A: Yes, This interests me. This interests me because I like anything books like david walliams. I like books what he and other authors write because they write them funny but also serious.

Q: I predict the book will be about...

A: I think this book will about the story of Roald Dahls life as a young boy or in his early 20s. I also predict this book will be about something funny, serious and possibly some mischievous work.

Q: What impression do you get from the front cover?  What can you infer about the book?

A: My impression I got from the cover is probably a weird, silly and crazy life. I really hope it is because that would make a awesome story

Do you like Roald Dahl books or David Williams better ?

Do you read silly, crazy books often ?

Blog ya later.

The Gingerbread Man

 The Gingerbread Man

Who is the protagonist ?
Protagonist - ( The protagonist is usually the good guy,  the person you want to win.  The main character )
I think the protagonist in the story is the old lady and the old man because they story is mainly about them and how they are lonely,  Also how about how they were chasing the gingerbread man.

Who is the antagonist ?
Antagonist - ( The person you don't want to win,  usually the bad guy.  The enemy of the Protagonist )
I think the antagonist is the gingerbread man because he's the bad guy running from the oven and running away from everyone so they had nothing good to eat.

What type of character do you think the Gingerbread Man is ?
I think hes the Antagonist because he's not the whole main story and he's cheeky.  He's cheeky because he runs away from everyone.

We find out the old man and the old lady are really lonely, especially the lady because the old man is always out in the garden.  The old lady is always bored because all she does is cook and clean and after that she has nothing to do.

The gingerbread mans actions show us he's fast,  he loves being cheeky. The gingerbread man seems cheeky from what we have read of him. I think he was actually scared of everyone that was running after him.  The three ways I would describe him is cheeky,  fast & a little bit dumb.

Health

Gender  &  Smoking

For a couple of weeks we have been doing health.  We have been look at health crisis.  We had a really long list to look at and chose one to research about.  I chose smoking because I know somewhat about smoking.  I made a chart on men and women,  and age groups on who smokes more.  I found out men smoke more.

I think people should stop smoking and start chewing gum to help you stop smoking.

Do you know anyone that smokes ?

What is your opinion about smoke

Non-Fiction Reading Activity

Non-Fiction Reading Activity

In reading,  for a couple weeks we have been looking at some protests.  Some of the things we have looked at is Women Rights or just protests in general.   We had to use this chart and make a 3-in-a-row bingo.  They had a question on them you would answer.  Here is what I did.

Non-Fiction Reading Activity
Opinions:
What is your opinion on the topic you read about ?  How do you feel about the issue ?
My opinion on this is I think it’s really unfair about them only paying the women half of what they gave the men.  I feel really angry and kind of sad because it should always be even for everything,  especially money.

What I learned:
What are two new pieces of information that you learned from the text?
I learned about women rights and what happened back in the day.  I also learned about 2011 earthquakes that changed the country forever.  I am very sad that it happened but also don’t regret that it happened because it makes Christchurch into the Christchurch we love.

Interesting fact:
Explain the most interesting thing you learned from the reading and why it stood out for you. Be specific and reference the text.
The most interesting part of the reading that I really liked was the bit where I found out women mostly have equal rights right now.  It should be all equal but I hope its all equal one day.

Try guess what bingo I did!

What do you think of my ideas and thoughts ?

Inclusiveness

Inclusiveness

For a couple weeks we have been doing some Inclusiveness slides.  I have just finished mine cause I was away for some time.  In this I have written what I think Inclusive is,  what it's not etc.  Here is my slide.

Someone has judged me before and I used to lose it!  But no I kinda of just brush it off and say oh well it is what it is.  When I got upset about it i felt frustrated I couldn't do anything about it.  I have learned to just not care what people say about you and also to stand up to people if they and judging you or others about something,  especially if it's racist.  If I saw someone getting left out I would try and go over to them to help them and then probably hang out with them.

No Limit Writing Challenge !

No Limit Writing Challenge !

This is a old man who is playing chess by him self.  He wanted to play chess to her improvised.  You maybe wondering how this is possible...  well his is putting his glasses on and off and switching seats.  I've give you a rough kinda of script.

Old man ( with glasses ) * moves a chess piece *

Old man ( no glasses ) * moves a chess piece and kicks a white piece off *

Old man ( with glasses ) * moves a white piece *

Old man ( no glasses )  * moves a black chess piece and gets a white kicked off *

                                       * After a bit *

Old man ( with glasses )  * fakes a heart attack *

Old man ( no glasses )  * stares at old man with glasses *

Old man ( with glasses )  * gets up and move the chess table around so he's now the black chess pieces, the other old man with no glasses is now the white chess piece *

Old man ( without glasses )   * gets confused and ends up losing because he only had one piece left *

Old man ( with glasses )  * Gets happy because he won *

Old man ( without glasses ) * gets false teeth out of pocket and gives them to the other old man *

Old man ( with glasses )  * very happy because he got false teeth *

That's kinda of what this was.  The winner of this chess game got false teeth.  The old man would have always got the teeth because it's the same person.

Do you think the old man has any friends ?

What do you think of this story ?

Planet Detective

Planet Detective

What are reasons Mercury lost most of its atmosphere ?
There is a very thin layer of atmosphere around the planet.  It always getting " blown away "  into space by the pressure of the sunlight and by the solar wind.

Compare how close Mercury & the Earth are to the sun.
Mercury's distance from the sun is 57.717  million km.
Earths distance away from the sun is 151.21 million km.

Compare how much mass Mercury & the Earth have.
Mercury's mass is 3.285e+23.
Earth's mass is 5.972e+24

How does not having an atmosphere affect the temperature ?
The clouds reflect on the heat of the sun away from the planet.  The winds circulate heat from hot places to cool places.  " Greenhouse "  Gases hold in the heat of the planet.

WW1

Women in WW1

This week and a little bit of last week we had to make a DLO about the women in Word War 1.  I made a google drawing.  We had to answer and few questions and do a paragraph about the women in WW1.  This is my google drawing.

I think that the women in WW1 should have been paid the same as the men did.  They should have got paid the same because they are doing the same jobs.  I think the women should have got a choice if they work or not.  If they chose not to they should have still got paid so they can still live.  The women should always get paid the same as any men because if it's the same job then say pay,  that's how it should have worked.

Kirsty and I think that it would be best to get an Axolotl because it's cheaper and easier to look after, there is less to do so that they won’t have to take time to prepare work for the students to get a pet.

Kirsty and I also discussed that you don’t need that much money to get the things because instead of getting the expensive brands you can get the budget brands.
