Book Review

 Book Review

My book was Boy by Roald Dahl.  I chose this book because I think Roald Dahls books are really funny and since it's a true story I thought it might be interesting.  Overall I really like this book because it was a true story from back in 1900s and I also think they could have made the chapters like relate to each other.

My favourite part of this book was where he talks about being a fag at Repton.  I liked this part because it seems very annoying to be a fag and I wanted to know what it's like being a fag.  There were many characters in the book but the main one who stood out was obviously Roald Dahl and his mum.

I would recommend this book to some people.  Not all people are going to like this book because it's based on a true story and some people might like made up stories.  I think people aged between 12- 14 would like this book.

I would rate this book a 3.5 / 5 because I don't like how the chapters don't make sense together but some of them do.
Here is a photo of Roald Dahl when he was alive:

EOTC - Extra for Experts

EOTC - Extra for Experts

Next week we are going on trips out to Town, Adrenaline Forest & Jellie Park.  We are going as Kahui and we call it EOTC.  EOTC means Education out the classroom.  We have this slide and it tells us what tasks to do.  There is 4 activities for each place we are going.  There is also 3 activities for year 9s that is called extra for experts but I'm doing that one because they looked funner.  My challenge was this:

Pretend you are a tourist coming to visit Christchurch for the first time.

Plan a day trip for a family of four around the city.

You might choose to visit some of the places we are going for EOTC, you might have some other favourite locations.

Include the costs/budget up to $200 for the day including lunch, snacks and any entrance costs for the attractions and transportation.

Here is what I did for this:

Have you ever been to any of these places ?

What place is your favourite out of the three ?

Speech Term 4

Why we should be allowed coloured hair and painted nails at school.

This term we have been looking at speeches.  We have been doing them for about 3 weeks now.  My speech is about why we should be allowed hair colour and painted nails, hence the title. Here is my speech,  at the top is the time and title.

I really enjoyed my speech because I like some of the words I used.
I was a little bit challenged trying to make it to two minutes long.  I over came this by just working and changing some words and trying to stretch it out as long as I could.
I learnt that I really don't like talking to my computer to record.

The purpose of persuasive writing is to persuade someone with whatever you have written.  Say your speech is why we should be allowed phones at school.  Well you would have to come up with many reasons that you think your option is the best option.

 Design a New Uniform

This week in reading when we finished all our work, we had to do fast finish tasks.  I only started them today because I was busy reading.  I created a unifrom I think would be good.  I didn't add shoes because I think any sneakers would be fine. Here is my google drawing on the "new uniform"

100 Word Challenge - Week 6

 100 Word Challenge

There are these magic bubbles,  they can take you anywhere.  I am at school right now and I really want to go home.  I am going to use these magic bubbles to go home because I would rather be at home.  I am now at home and I thought using those bubbles were fun.  Later that day when school finished when I was at home,  I wanted to go hangout with my friends.  I used the magic bubble to get there.  None of my friends were there.  So I used the magic bubble and went back home to my sister.

Novel Study

 Boy - Roald Dahl

This week for our novel study we had to read pages 108 - 126.  That was two chapters,  Captain Hardcastle &  Little Ellis and the Boil.  Our activity we had to do was writing a blog post about what I think the 1920s - 1930s were like.

What have you learned so far about life in the 1920s-1930s from reading this book? Give examples specifically about how things were different or similar.

I have learnt that I would not like to live in the 1900s because I would hate to get the cane. It's very different from 2020 because now if we get the cane it's child abuse.

If you were going to write an autobiography about your life, what would be some main events that you would include? What has made a big impact on your life?

I would add when my brothers were born, 22/7/17 & 31/10/20. A big impact on my life is when they were born because they are so adorable if there aren't crying.

Have you read any other Roald Dahl books? Which ones? Compare the stories; which one have you liked better and why? If not, have you read David Walliams? Do you notice anything similar between the two author’s writing styles?

Yes I have. I have read BFG, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits and a whole bunch more. I have also read David Walliams books and his a very simler. They are really cool and I like them alot.

Roald Dahl - Boy Tales of Childhood

Novel Study Week 4

This week for our novel study we had to read page 85 - 107.  I read all of them in one day,  I didn't get to posting this blog post on that day.  For that weeks activity, we had to get 10 words out of the chapters we read.  Then we had to search the meaning of them.  Here is my ten words.

Dormitories (85) - A large room for a number of people in a school, collage, etc.

Immense (86) - Extra large or great.

Prowl (87) - Usually an animal is searching for a prey.

Ranged (89) - It's something spaced in a pacific order.

Ancient (93) - Something that is old or not existent anymore.

Devastatingly (93) - Something that could make you sad.  A emotion.

Anaesthetist (94) - It's where you forget everything you ever had.  You can get your memory back.

100 Word Challenge - week 4

 100 Word Challenge

It was cold, dark and misty. I heard a car door slam and started to tiptoe to the door. I undid the locks and walked out to the car. I turned the flash on, on my phone and saw footprints on the front of my car. I was shocked where they were from and how the heck did they get there ? I heard a bang and whipped my head around there was nothing but darkness. I aimed the flash in that direction and saw a cat phew. I wiped the sweat off my home and walked back into the house.

200 Word Challenge

 200 Word Challenge

Swimming in the deep blue sea is scary,  but is being eaten by a whale scarier?  Well I so think so,  I was just swimming and out of no where... I saw a man scuba diver just swimming like nothing was behind him.  But little did he know that there was a massive whale behind he wanting to eat him alive.  He never turned back around so he couldn't even hear the whale.  The whale just wanted to eat him but I swam as fast as I could,  I went to the diver and said look out.  We went up for air for about 30 seconds then to find the whale was gone.  We didn't know where the whale was so we were freaking out,  but at the same time we weren't to scared because it's so massive that we can see it from ages away.  I was pretty scared because we were about 30 minutes in a boat away from any land and 2 hours swim from any land.  We started swimmer south until we found a boat.  It was out of gas but had some pedals to we got to our houses before anything could happen or dark.
